Ying Xu is an interdisciplinary artist whose work seeks the resonance of the human body and consciousness, as well as the interactive relationship and alternative discourses between human, nature and time.
Born in Shanghai, China, grew up in Beijing, where she attened Fine Arts School Affiliated to CAFA and earning BFA from CAFA.She has been lecture in Shenzhen Art School for 13 years before she moved to switzerland. Trained as a professional oil painter, Xu's early study and resaerch on painting were mainly focused on the period from the Renaissance to the Impressionism. Which has strongly shaped Xu's way of observing things, these can be seen in her early portraits and works. Informed by Eastern philosophy and the notions of impermanence, Xu become increasingly attracted to the simplicity and the beauty of ephemeral things. She collects modest objects around her life and from nature, transform them into someting intriguing and thought provoking. Much of her recent work utilizes the processes of drawing, watercolor painting, mending and sculpturing to explore ideas around connection and interconnection from body and space; mind and experience; individual and collective; temporality and eternity, make the invisible visible.
Lives and works in Feuerthalen,Switzerland.
