Some common questions about Fine Art Print:
What is Giclée Fine Art Printing?
The word ‘Giclée’ was coined in the late 1980s and is derived from the French phrase, ‘gicler,’ which translates as ‘to squirt’ or ‘spray’ (inspired by how the printer nozzle applies the ink pigments to the paper). The terms ‘Giclée Prints’ or ‘pigment prints’ refer to a fine art print created by using a specialized high resolution inkjet printer as an output device.
Limited edition Giclée prints are exceptionally special because we only produce a small amount 10 editions, numbered and signed, it is archival grade and offers intense colour and vibrancy.
What is Pigement based ink ?
Pigment inks are professional artists’ and photographers’ preferred choice due primarily to their archival purposes. Pigmented inks are much more resistant to UV light, which is vital for the longevity of printed images. To give you a rough idea, you can expect dye-based inks to fade after about 50 years, whereas most pigment inks (if used on their intended paper and kept in a suitable archive condition) can boast to last 200+ years.
With pigment inks, the tiny particles fall and cling to the paper’s surface immediately after printing. This means there’s far less likelihood your print will bleed and smudge than with the waterier dye-based inks. Your print will also be much less susceptible to water damage overall because the tiny ink particles are water-resistant.
What is Cotton Rag Paper?
Cotton rag also known as rag paper, is made of using cotton linters or cotton from used cloth (rags) as the primary material. Cotton paper is superior in both strength and durability to wood pulp-based paper, which may contain high concentrations of acids, and also absorbs ink or toner better.
Papers manufactured of cotton fiber will last longer and hold up better under repeated handling and various environmental conditions .
Archival quality is the number one benefit for printing on cotton rag.
you might noticed when you are in a gallery or Museum, the art print normally have a description like "Archival Fine Art Print" or "Pigment on Rag", both are referring to an art print that has been made using an inkjet printer, archival pigment inks, and cotton rag paper.
